A 1983 reference 16750 with a genuinely faded red and blue bezel insert — the red has softened to a deep plum and the blue to a muted grey, a transition that takes decades and cannot be convincingly manufactured. The tritium lume has aged to a warm cream that matches across all plots and the hands. This is a collector's watch: the case has been polished at some point in its life and the bracelet shows real stretch. We grade it Good and price it accordingly, because a vintage watch described as flawless should always raise suspicion.

Bezel: original insert with genuine even fade — red to deep plum, blue to muted grey. Two small edge chips at the 30 and 45 markers, disclosed.

Crystal: replaced acrylic crystal (correct period-style replacement) — disclosed.

Dial: original matte dial with correct period printing; a faint spotting mark near the nine o'clock index, photographed and disclosed.

Hands and lume: original tritium plots aged to warm cream, colour matched across dial and hands with no missing plots.

Bracelet: original Oyster bracelet with heavy stretch of approximately 20%; correct period clasp code, functions securely.

Movement: calibre 3075 running +8 seconds per day, GMT hand and quickset date function correctly.

Authentication

Serial position and format verified against 1983 production records. Caseback opened and calibre 3075 confirmed as period-correct with matching case number. Dial confirmed original and unrefinished — printing examined at 40x for correct font, correct minute-track spacing, and absence of re-lacquered edges. Lume plots tested for consistent tritium ageing across dial and hands; a mismatch here is the most common sign of a service dial or relumed watch, and none was found. Bezel fade examined under raking light to confirm natural degradation rather than chemical or UV forcing. Crystal confirmed as a later period-style replacement. Case measured to confirm prior polishing and the extent disclosed.

Pricing rationale

No retail comparison exists — the reference ceased production in 1988. Completed sales for 16750 examples with genuinely faded bezels and original unrefinished dials ran HK$240,000–HK$320,000 over ninety days, an unusually wide band because vintage value is driven almost entirely by dial originality, lume matching, and bezel fade quality rather than by reference. We are priced at HK$268,000, in the lower-middle of that range, reflecting a previously polished case, bracelet stretch, and the replaced crystal, offset by an original dial with matched cream lume and a genuine even fade. Vintage watches carry a 12-month warranty and are not water resistant.

Service history

Full overhaul at our bench: movement stripped, cleaned, lubricated, mainspring and worn gaskets replaced. Rate regulated within acceptable tolerance for a calibre of this age. Not pressure tested for water resistance — vintage cases with replaced crystals should be treated as non-water-resistant.
