A 1972 Tank Louis Cartier in 18k yellow gold with a white lacquer dial and blued sword hands. Authentication

18k gold hallmarks and Cartier case numbers verified against period records. Caseback opened; movement is a correct period Cartier-signed calibre with matching finishing. Dial confirmed original — printing examined at 40x, no evidence of refinishing (no re-lacquered edges, correct font, correct minute-track spacing). Crystal confirmed as a later sapphire replacement and disclosed accordingly. Strap is aftermarket; buckle is original and signed.

Pricing rationale

There is no retail comparison — this reference has been out of production for decades. Completed sales for period Tank Louis examples in gold with comparable condition ran HK$55,000–HK$74,000 over ninety days, with the spread driven almost entirely by dial condition and case sharpness. We are priced at HK$62,000, in the lower-middle of that range, reflecting the softened case edges, the replaced crystal, and the aftermarket strap. A sharper example with an original crystal would sit at the top of the band.
